About the Therapies

All of the therapies used in treatment are evidenced based, which means that they have been shown to be effective in research trials. My predominant approach incorporates acceptance and commitment strategies to help a person loosen themselves from their limiting beliefs, thoughts and behaviours enabling shift and change. The following is a brief outline of some of the therapies I offer:

Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) was initially used in the treatment of trauma but has now been shown to be effective with anxiety, stress, phobias, panic attacks, obsessive-compulsive disorders, low self esteem, depression, complicated grief, addictions and relationship problems. After an in-depth assessment and preparation for EMDR the client is encouraged to focus on the trauma/event and then guided through a series of bilateral stimulation (eye movements, taps, tones) which enables the trauma/event to be reprocessed and released.

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) is a treatment for people who have difficulty managing their emotions. The therapy combines techniques aimed at helping people change problematic thoughts, emotions and behaviours with techniques designed to help in tolerating distress and emotional pain when it is not possible to change what caused the difficulties.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) has a general goal of increasing psychological flexibility – the ability to contact the present moment more fully as a conscious human being and to change or persist in behaviour when doing so serves valued ends.
